When Tik Tok left India during the pandemic, an entire audience was wanting for more – or at least something. India’s enterprising soul came to full blast to fill the void, and there are several apps that figured out a way to cater to Tik Tok’s audience. However, these apps that are alternative to Tik Tok couldn’t work, with one of them rolling up even as it was rolling out.

List of Aps that are alternative to Tik Tok in India

  • Roposo App

The Roposo App came with a bang and gained some popularity during the lockdown. The app is one of the few that are still active. The app gained popularity just after Tik Tok left India, but there doesn’t seem to be a buzz about it any longer.  It first launched in 2014, but there wasn’t much publicity about it.  According to the website, it has more than 100 million downloads.

  • KWAI

KWAI is another Tik Tok alternative quite popular in India now. Like Dubsmash, users can lip sync songs and post videos with the songs running in the background.  KWAI also has several contests going on all the time, so you never know when you can win something big on the app.

  • Chingari App

Chingari literally means a small fire, and the app has been around since 2018, and it gained traction after Tik Tok left India. According to Wikipedia, the app has more than 25 million downloads.

  • Dubsmash App

Dubsmash was the original Tik Tok in India, an app that became quite popular around five years ago. It was actually one of the few social apps that the celebrities promoted back in the day. Apart from Facebook and Twitter, celebrities organically made their way to Dubsmash.

The app launched in 2016 and Reddit acquired it in 2020.  Dubsmash had a USP, that users could lip-sync on songs of celebrities and make videos with the song running in the background.

  • Likee

And then we have Likee, the short video app that’s had a long run on the ad spaces on our mobile phones, proving that they do have an inexhaustible advertising budget when it comes to India.

These video sharing apps have:

  1. User-generated content
