Bollywood has several high octane songs. It was the item song in the eighties and nineties and it became the glamor songs when content became politicially correct. But before that, even in the sixties and seventies, Bollywood ha the special song, a song where the characters were or were not the main characters in the movies. These were the songs that were so successful that they became bigger than the movie.  These songs might be from the nineties, but some of them have even hit the remix brigade, making them brand new all over again.

Here are the top 5 retro songs from that we still dance to

  • Bade Miya Chote Miya

Let’s be frank here. No song in the history of Bollywood has had such a fast and thick opening. We can never be sure about all the musical instruments used for the opening, but the effect is still mind-blowing. And for someone who’s grown up in the nineties, this song still gives us the goosebumps.

  • Tamma Tamma

Tamma Tamma is another song that everyone still grooves  to. It helps that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt grooved to it for Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, but the nineties song is still a classic – with one other than Madhuri Dixit dancing to it, with Sanjay Dutt in tow. Sanjay Dutt isn’t exactly known for his dance skills, but he did wow everyone with this song.

  • Apni to Aise Taise

If you think Bollywood doesn’t have anything for the alpha Male song, think again. Amitah Bachchan did all that decades ago with Apni to Aise Taise. People who understand Hindi dance to the lyrics, those who don’t dance to the beats, which are seconded only the ones in Bade Miya Chote Miya song in this list.

  • Meri Pant Bhi Sexy

This song became controversial on its launch, but it’s a quick piece of dance that everyone gets into the minute it begins beating on the floor. After all, this song has Govinda at his naughty best. The song is from Dulara, a murder mystery that was a sleepaway hit. It wasn’t everyday that a murder mystery/suspense worked at this level in Bollywood. Historians will tell you that most of the success of the movie was because of the initial buzz that the word ‘sexy’ in the song implied.

  • Say Shaava Shaava

For some reason, this song is very famous among the celebrities. You will hear this song playing at some of the other parties that a celebrity has hosted. Maybe because the original song features Amitabh Bachchan, maybe because the beats of the song ring true, even decades after the song’s release. Whatever the reason, Shava Shava is one of the most popular Bollywood retro songs that still find an audience.
