We’re halfway through a year that feels like an eternity, but at least we’ve had an abundance of tunes to keep us occupied. From a bittersweet posthumous release to petty breakup bops, here are the top songs 2020 has to offer so far.
Top Songs 2020:
Chloe ‘Forgive Me’
Chloe sings on the hook of “Forgive Me” after learning the person she’s been loving has been dishonest. But don’t expect to find Chloe or Halle teary-eyed and broken over a dying relationship.
Weeknd ‘Blinding Lights’.
UK’s biggest song of the year so far is The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights. The Canadian singer-songwriter’s Weeknd mega hit leads the way on the year-to-date Official Singles Chart with 1.89 million chart sales, made up of 177,000 downloads and 211 million streams. Blinding Lights spent eight weeks at Number 1 between February and April and features on his fourth studio album After Hours, which topped the Official Albums Chart in March.
Tones & I’s ‘Dance Monkey’
Tones & I’s Dance Monkey which, despite first hitting the Official Chart last August, has continued to prove a powerhouse throughout 2020, logging 34 weeks inside the Top 40 since January. Its chart sales this year stand at 1.39 million, 2.5 million in total.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Exile’
Taylor Swift’s “Exile” is as emotive and warm as the monotone Willow Instagram filter. Like sipping on a cup of hot cocoa at a bonfire, throaty vocals from Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon add warmth to the rather mellow track, as Swift’s softer tone meets his midway through the song.
The shortest song on the album follows a braggadocious skit from the Hot Girl herself, “Water” is a two-minute guide on the many ways the Pisces singer wants to be pleased, so if you’re eyeing a water sign, act accordingly.
