Wonder Woman 1984 is a superhero movie that’s one of the most anticipated movies. Unfortunately, the release of the movie stalled because of the pandemic. Now, with the world opening up and the cinema theaters following suit, here’s some good news. Wonder Woman 1984 will release in theaters and on HBO MAX, the streaming channel. Currently, HBO MAX is only available in the US and the regions that come under the US.
The first Wonder Woman movie changed the way audiences looked at the superhero movies coming from the DC stable. When it released in 2017, along with Venom, the movie made a splash. Audiences and critics both welcomed the movie and said that Marvel finally had something to contend with.
As things stand now, Wonder Woman 1984 will release internationally on December 16 and will also be available on HBO MAX for free, for the first month. However, it is unclear whether Indian audiences will be able to watch Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO MAX. While HBO MAX is available on Disney+ Hotstar, they have different price points for English language content. For example, users can access the Marvel content in English only with the VIP Pass, which is for 1499 per year. Those same movies are available in the Hindi language at under 500 per year.
Gal Gadot will Be Wonder Woman Once Again
In India, the concept of releasing movies on streaming platforms is taking a beating. A couple of movies did release on ZEE5 and Disney + Hotstar, but all that is coming under question. ZEE5 launched Khali Peeli and Disney+ Hotstar released Laxmii. Amazon Prime released Good Newz. Only Good Newz was a successful launch, and the other two released have raised questions. There’s a buzz that Amazon Prime is asking for a preview of Coolie No. 1, before they release it on their streaming platform.
Wonder Woman movie has had a long history
Warner Bros has released Tenet before, during the pandemic, when the theaters were yet to shut down completely in the US. However, the collections were not according to pre-Covid times.
Wonder Woman 1984 Will Release on HBO MAX
Wonder Woman 1984 has been under the cloud for a long while. While we have had a Wonder Woman series in the seventies, the movie was in development hell for at least two decades. The most famous form of the superhero series was the Lynda Carter starrer series from 1975.
With the pandemic, more and more producers are looking to get their content out on the streaming platforms, but some of them are actually waiting it out. For example, Rohit Shetty has decided to wait for the theaters to open to their full strength for Suryavansham, his action blockbuster that’s actually a trilogy, considering that he has already has made Singham and Simba. Suryavansham stars Akshay Kumar as a cop who’s out on a mission.
But with such a blockbuster and with the pandemic tapering out in several countries, maybe the entertainment world has something to rejoice.
