India is a land of many amazing festivals. Festivals are an integral part of the culture of India for it represents the beliefs and customs of the country. The heritage and culture of India are being reflected in the colorful festivals that are celebrated at different times. But there are some festivals which are celebrated in a particular season. As the summer is on, here’s a list of some of the best festivals that are celebrated in this season!


Gangaur is one of India’s most iconic festivals celebrated in the Rajasthan state, particularly in Jaipur. The celebrations of this festival start from the next day of Holi and continue for 16-18 days. During this festival, the devotees worship the Goddess Gauri with fruits, durva grass, and bright glass pots filled with fresh water. Gangaur is considered as the most important festival in Rajasthan. This year, the festival commences starting on the 2nd of March up to March 20.


Baisakhi is one of the most colorful festivals in the summer season. This festival is celebrated by the whole Punjabi community. Baisakhi is an agriculture-based festival and marks the New Year for the North Indians. This festival signifies the happiness of the farmers after their rabi crops are harvested. Baisakhi is celebrated on the 14th of Apri.

Ooty Flower Festival

Ooty Flower Festival is one of the most famous summer festivals celebrated in the Nilgiris. The highlights of this festival are the stunning flower show with 150+ varieties of flowers from different countries in beautiful floral arrangements and flower rangolis This festival is celebrated from the 17th to the 19th of May.

Chithirai Festival

Chithirai Festival is an amazing South Indian festival held in the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. This festival is called as Meenakshi Kalyanam as this festival is a marriage celebration of Lord Sundareswarar with the fish-eyed goddess Meenakshi.  Chithirai Festival is celebrated for 10 days in the month of Chaitra (March-April).

Moatsu Festival

Moatsu Festival is the most joyful festival in the summer season celebrated by Tribal community in Nagaland. This festival is celebrated in the first week of May for three days. Moatsu Festival marks the joy, fun, and excitement in the tribals after some stressful activities like burning the jungles, clearing fields and wells, sowing seeds, repairing houses.

In addition to these, Mount Abu Summer Festival, Yercaud Summer Festival, Sikkim Summer Festival, Hemis Festival, Hanuman Jayanthi, etc, are also some of the famous summer festivals in India.
