International Olympics Committee (IOC) officially announced that Breakdancing is going to be part of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Along with Breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing also added to the 2024 Paris Games. Surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing will be making their debut in Tokyo 2020 Games. The 2020 Tokyo Games postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Breakdancing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games called as ‘Breaking’. In the 1970s, breakdancing usually referred to as breaking by hip-hop pioneers in the United States. The addition of the wildly popular breakdancing to the 2024 Paris Games took place mainly to attract a new and younger audience. Along with adding 4 new sports to the 2024 Olympics, IOC  is planning to eliminate 10 athletic events including several weightlifting and boxing competitions.

IOC limited the total athlete quote for the 2024 Olympics to be exactly 10,500 which is 500 less than the 2020 Summer Olympics. Also, the 2024 Paris Olympics, will be fully gender-equal. The Paris Olympics will be having 28 gender-equal sports, out of 32 total, and 22 mixed events, as comparing with 18 in Tokyo.

The addition of breakdancing at the 2024 Olympic Games first proposed by organizers two years ago following positive trials at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. IOC approved the move in 2019 after a voting process by the board and its full membership. Breaking going to place at one of the prestigious venues in Paris, Place de la Concorde. Along with Breaking, even sport climbing and 3-on-3 basketball are also going to take place at this venue.

Breakdancing is one of the more dynamic and enduring outgrowths of the 1970s U.S. hip-hop movement. It is a mix of rhythmic gymnastics and martial arts.  During the 1970s and 1980s, break-dancers called themselves B-Boys and many of them formed dance crews. They used to battle with each other on street corners.  During all this time, breakdancing gained popularity with annual competitions all around the world and many dancers became experts in Breaking.
