Karnam Malleswari

Women Who Won Medals in Olympics

Karnam Malleswari is the first and only Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics in weightlifting. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, She won the bronze medal by lifting 110 kg in the “snatch” and 130 kg in the “clean and jerk” categories for a total of 240 kg. She retired after participating in the 2004 Olympics.

Saina Nehwal

Women Who Won Medals in Olympics

Saina Nehwal has represented India three times in the Olympics and she is the first Indian badminton player to have won an Olympic medal in Badminton. She won a Bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and attained world no. 1 Badminton Player in 2015.

Mary Kom

Mary Kom is the only Indian Boxer woman who represented the nation in the 2012 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal in the 51 kg flyweight category. Women’s boxing was featured as a sport for the first time in the London Olympics in 2012.

Sakshi Malik

Sakshi Malik is the first Indian female wrestler to win the bronze medal in the 58 kg category at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics. She became the fourth female Olympic medallist from the country.

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal in the women’s singles event of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics. She became the youngest Indian to make a podium finish in an individual event at the Olympics.
